Summary (from Goodreads):
From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie...and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

Review:
She has done it again! Maas gives you so much in this story that I can't believe that the book is as short as it is. I love Calaena and Chaol and Dorian so much more after this. I just can't find the right words.

While most of this story is about Calaena, you grow closer to Choal and Dorian too. Calaena has grown a lot since the beginning but you really get a grasp of just how much. She is slowing starting to realize that what she is doing is not enough. When all that she has grown to love, and you know how hard that must be for her to admit, is slowing disappearing, she snaps. And with that she finally realizes what she has to do.

It heartbreaking to watch her grow as she finds out the truth. To see someone mourn in such a way lets you understand how deep those feelings were. Even if they were for more than one person and for different reasons. I just can't get over the depth Maas has given Calaena.

Chaol is an amazing man. What he gave up to be with Dorian and now what he is going back to for her is amazing. Only he knows her secret and is doing everything he can to protect her. Even if it goes against his current loyalties. His love is undeniable.

Maas has yet again blown me away with her words and imagination. I couldn't put this down. And at the end I was so happy to know that there is more. I just cannot put into words the awesomeness of Maas. This is the kind of writer I could only dream of being.
